In relation to Tier 4 (General) Student visa applications, paragraph 309 of the Guide to Sponsoring Students Under Tier 4 of the Points-based System (valid from 5 September 2011) states that courses must lead to an approved qualification. The UKBA definition of an approved qualification includes those that are, in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, on the Register of Regulated Qualifications http://register.ofqual.gov.uk/ at QCF or NQF level 3 or above.
